Testimonials

This year is the year I have to renew my driver’s license. Every four years I get super anxious about passing the vision test without restrictions. This year I passed with no trouble at all. I just wanted to thank you so much for all that you have done for me. This scleral lens has given me the ability to see and allow me live my life with some normalcy. I have two children that I can see their faces and watch them play. There was a time in my past that I had to touch my little girls face to try to make a mental picture of what she looked like. Not now, I see both of them everyday because of what you have given me.

Before getting the scleral lenses my vision was very blurry and not stable. The scleral lens is very easy to use. I’m very satisfied with the results. Everyone there is very nice and helpful.

I was diagnosed with keratoconus in 1999 and wore RGP lenses for 8 years. Then I wore Hybrid lenses, which were ok for 6 years. The hybrid lenses became intolerable. I found Dr. DeNaeyer on the internet and went to Columbus, Ohio. I have seen many Optometrists in the the course of my treatment and Dr. DeNaeyer is the very best. He got the fit down the first visit! I went from 7-9 hours of so-so vision and discomfort with the Hybrid lenses, to 16 hours of comfortable wear with the scleral lenses. Many thanks to Dr. DeNaeyer and Jennifer for changing my life and also for their kindness and compassion.

Scleral Lenses have changed my world from an old tube TV into the new realm of HiDef. The feel is fantastic and my severe keratoconus doesn’t interfere with my life like it did. Thanks so much to Dr. DeNaeyer!

My vision in my right eye before my new lenses was awful (20/400). With my new scleral lens I see about 20/40. It is so comfortable. Although the price of the scleral lens is high, it is well worth it. Thank you Dr. DeNaeyer.

I was suffering with an eye ulcer and was treated for several months by Dr. Lembach (who is absolutely wonderful). Dr. Lembach suggested that I try a scleral lens to improve my vision that was decreased secondary to a scar. I then saw Dr. DeNaeyer (who is equally as wonderful) and he fit me with a scleral lens. I was so excited because I have never liked to wear glasses. It took some practice, but now I have no trouble taking the lens in and out of my eye. It has just become part of my daily routine. Thanks to all at Arena Eye Surgeons for all of their help and concern during the healing process.

Initially before receiving a pair of scleral lenses, my vision was similar to a camera out of focus.  I’d found ways to adapt to my disability consciously and unconsciously.  I could complete tasks, but not without a great deal of effort.  The scleral lenses provided a life changing experience.  Life is so much simpler for me in terms of completing work and life related activities.  I am amazed at the quality of my vision, the comfort level, and the length of time I am able to wear the lenses.  I am truly grateful for the lenses and the expertise demonstrated by Dr. Gregory W. DeNaeyer at Arena Eye Surgeons.

In 1995, I was diagnosed with Keratoconus and was fitted with RGP Lenses.  Between then and 2006 I wore RGP lenses and sometimes had to piggyback these lenses over soft lenses to improve comfort and increase wear-time.  In June of 2006, I had gastric by-pass surgery and lost over one hundred and forty pounds.  This started the second phase of refitting lenses because of secondary ocular changes.  I was able to get my left eye refit, but the lens kept popping out.  We tried over fifteen different lens designs in the right eye, but were never able to get it correct.  In June of 2009 I went to Arena Eye Surgeons to visit Dr. DeNaeyer to discuss my problem and be fit for a sclera lens for my right eye.  Within a few days, I was successfully fit in my right eye; however, a slight power change was needed.  I drove back to Oklahoma and early the following week the lens was delivered to my house.  The wear time and comfort was unbelievable and vision was stable and a lot better than before.  In August I went back to get my left eye fit with a scleral contact lens.  Everything worked out fine and got the same fast three day service.  Later,I was having some problem with redness in both eyes and since I was going back to Ohio for a wedding anniversary, I made a follow-up appointment. I found out I was having an allergic reaction to one of the solutions I was using.  After changing solutions everything was fine.  Wear time with sclerals is longer and comfort is unbelievable compared to RGP lenses.  Vision clarity with sclerals is better overall than with the RGP lenses, and I don’t have to piggy back lenses anymore.  I highly recommend Dr. DeNaeyer and Arena Eye Surgeons if you are having problems getting contact lenses to fit properly.

Before a contact was given as an option, I had blurry vision in my right eye due to having shingles on my face and eye.The virus caused a scar on my cornea which caused the blurry vision.I had resigned myself to that vision, but when the scleral contact was fitted by Dr. DeNaeyer my vision suddenly became clear.I’m not just satisfied with the scleral contact I’m grateful to be able to see clearly again.I had given up needlework and now I’m back at cross stitching and needlepoint- reading is pleasurable again.

I also appreciate Dr. DeNaeyer taking the time to explain, teach and fit me with a better view of the world around me.
Thank you!

I am a 62 year-old living in Idaho.  I have always been very active and independent.  I enjoy traveling, playing tennis, working in my yard and garden, reading, sewing, going to movies and watching television.  When I first started having discomfort in my eyes, I thought the contacts that I was wearing were at fault.  After switching to glasses and still having discomfort I realized that something more was wrong.  I eventually was diagnosed with chronic dry eye.  The medications, including prescription Restasis and Lacrisert, did not work for me.  I was using non-preserved eye drops and gel around the clock.  I was also using warm compresses, washing my lids twice per day, and wearing swim goggles at night.  I had my tear ducts plugged and still my eyes were painful.  My corneas had abrasions and my eyes felt like they were “rug burned”.  I was constantly squinting to see as I could not keep my eyes open.  I was extremely light sensitive, so going out into the sunshine was very painful.  I found myself staying at home and keeping the lights dim.  Needless to say it was a drastic change in my lifestyle.  Even watching TV was now a problem.  I no longer drove my car  at night, and only took short trips during the day.  All of the things I enjoyed doing along with my independence was slipping away from me as a result of my dry eye condition.  Needless to say, I was very frustrated!  Out of that frustration, grew the desire to learn all I could about my dry eye condition.  I researched on the Internet, everything I could find concerning dry eye and treatment.  That research led me to Dr.  Greg DeNaeyer’s website where I learned about a specialized lens called a Scleral lens that can benefit people with dry eyes.  After conversing with Dr. DeNaeyer via email concerning the Scleral lenes and the fitting process, I made an appointment and flew to Columbus, Ohio from Idaho.  I was out of other options, but was not ready to give up.  I had hope!  The Scleral lens has been a miracle for me!  Since I started wearing the Scleral lenses, I am no longer in pain.  I am no longer light sensitive and have resumed all my activities.  My vision is 20/20 and I can drive without difficulty.  I have my independence back.    I truly feel as though I have my life back thanks to Dr. DeNaeyer and the Scleral Contact Lenses.

In 2003 I had my first corneal transplant due to Fuch’s corneal dystrophy.  All went well, and I was fit with a regular contact lens and could see much better.  However, the other eye also needed a transplant, which I had done in 2006.  The follow up exams showed an irregularity, which could not be corrected for using a regular contact lens.  So at the age of 87, I was finally fit with a Scleral Contact Lens by Dr. DeNaeyer, which gave me 20/20 vision.  It is wonderful to see better now than I have most of my life.  I was told that the Scleral Contact lens may be difficult to insert, but I have been very successful with inserting and removing the scleral lens on a daily basis.  I play bridge with a group of 16 once per week.  I use my computer everyday purchasing, looking up things, and email.  So my life is full and I am grateful that I can drive my car to all of my activities.

I was diagnosed with leukemia and had a stem cell transplant to cure me.  I started having Graft Versus Host Disease problems and developed a severe case of dry eye syndrome.  I eventually could not work or even see without extreme discomfort until Dr. DeNaeyer fit me with Scleral Contact Lenses.  The lenses are easy to get in and out once you get the hang of it.  The lens has room for liquid, which keeps the eye moist.  Without these lenses I would not be able to do all of the things that most of us take for granted.
