Ocular trauma or corneal disease can result in anterior segment scar tissue. Severe scarring can be a significant cosmetic concern. Fortunately patients with corneal opacification can be fit with a prosthetic contact lens that restores a patient’s normal appearance. A soft or gas permeable scleral lens can be hand painted to match the patient’s other eye. In general prosthetic scleral lenses are more realistic looking and durable than prosthetic soft lenses.
